We are a couple in our 50s from Scotland from professional social services and business backgrounds. About 8 years ago the Lord began to interest us in Spain, first through language classes then through a couple of very special holidays here. Gradually this moved from just an interest to a sense of God’s call to get involved and contribute to the spiritual welfare of the country and society. After making contact with the WEC team in Spain and getting to know more about the country and what WEC does here we felt it was right to go ahead and apply. We then completed a missions training year at WEC’s missions college in New Zealand before doing the UK Candidate Orientation course then joining WEC in Madrid as New Workers for two years. We arrived in the north in the summer of 2013 and since then have been building friendships and connections in the community.
We collaborate with another couple linked to Youth with a Mission who have been in our town for 2 years already and together we’re trying to develop a small church plant project. Our goal, of course, is that this should become a somewhat bigger church plant project in due course! We have already made a number of good friends in the community and hope to use all of our hobbies, interests and English language skills to further the process of integration. We believe that from a position of trust, confidence and honesty we can share Jesus in a natural way and offer the spiritual alternative that Spain has never really had.
